Halloween in Essa Belongs to a Tree Farm, a Library and a Legion Hall

Essa Township's Fall 2026 Recreation Guide gives its community events a single page. It lists Ivy Days at Ivy Hall on September 12, the Thornton Corn Roast at Thornton Arena on September 13, Angus Rock and Roll at the Angus Arena from September 18 to 20, and Angus Wrestling on September 26. After that, the township calendar has no Halloween festival.

October still has plenty going on, just not under the township's name. Three local organizations run the season, and each one serves a different age group at a different time of day. Drysdale's Tree Farm in Egbert takes families during the day and older kids after dark. The Essa Public Library takes toddlers and teens. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 499 on Fraser Street in Angus takes the grown-ups. Put the three schedules side by side and the whole season fits together with very little overlap.

Egbert has the longest schedule

Drysdale's runs its Halloween & Harvest Village from October 3, 2026, "running each weekend until Halloween," at 6635 County Road 56 in Egbert. It's the only Halloween event in Essa that runs for most of October. Because Halloween is a Saturday this year, the village has four weekends left from today: October 10 and 11, 17 and 18, 24 and 25, and Saturday the 31st.

Daytime hours are 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Thanksgiving Monday, which this year is October 12. Admission is $18.50 per person, and children 3 and under get in free. The day program includes:

  • an all-ages haunted wagon ride
  • a pickpocket magician
  • Sand Mountain
  • a children's zip line
  • train rides
  • an obstacle course and lawn games
  • a bonfire with marshmallow roasting
  • a tarot card reader from noon to 4:30 p.m.
  • pumpkin picking, with pumpkins sold separately

The time to plan around is 3:45 p.m. That's when the last wagon goes out to the forest, and the farm warns that anyone arriving later won't have time for most of the activities. Dogs are welcome on a leash but can't go inside the buildings or on the Haunted Wagon Ride. Food and drink are cash only. Drysdale's accepts Access 2 cards, which give one support worker free admission when the card is shown before paying.

On Saturdays the farm switches to a separate night program from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Night tickets are $27 per person, recommended for ages 12 and up, with younger children allowed at a parent's discretion. The haunted wagon becomes the "Psycho Path," which the farm calls "scarier at night." The magician, tarot reader, bonfire and pumpkin patch carry over from the day program. The last night wagon leaves at 9:15 p.m., and the farm doesn't refund tickets for late arrivals. That leaves four Saturday nights this season, and the last one falls on Halloween itself.

The library covers the ages Drysdale's doesn't

The day program at Drysdale's suits families, and the night program skews 12 and up. That leaves the youngest children and high schoolers, and the Essa Public Library's Angus Branch has built its Halloween week around those two groups.

High school students go first. On Monday, October 26, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., the Angus Branch shows Casper in its program room as a free after-school drop-in for grades 9 to 12. It comes with a Halloween art activity and snacks. The library calls it "a safe space to hang out," says students can bring homework and friends, and needs no registration. Event details are on the library calendar.

The youngest children have their morning on Friday, October 30. Teeny Halloweeny runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the gym at Angus Recreation Centre, not at the library. It's designed for ages 1 to 5, siblings are welcome, and it includes a story, sensory play and a photo op. Families should register and bring indoor shoes. Registration is open now.

On Saturday, October 31, the library holds a "Trick or Treat" drop-in at the Angus Branch from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., based at the Octagon Table in Teen Central. Kids can do a spooky Search & Find, make a craft and pick up a treat, and the library welcomes costumes. These hours overlap with the Drysdale's day program. It's the only point in the season where two hosts are running at the same hours. A family could do the library in the morning and still drive to Egbert before the 3:45 p.m. wagon cutoff.

The harvest event is the library fundraiser

In Essa, the evening that most resembles a harvest supper this October is a library event. Essalicious, which the library calls "the most delicious fundraiser of the year," runs Thursday, October 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Angus Branch, 8505 County Road 10, Unit 1.

The food comes from the township itself. The Nottawasaga Pines Secondary School Hospitality Class prepares the harvest-inspired samplings. There's also a silent auction, and local author Cecily Ross is the guest speaker for a formal, seated 45-minute presentation. Tickets are $20 per person, the event is for ages 16 and up, and the proceeds support the Essa Public Library. Ticket details are on the event listing. With a 45-minute seated talk inside a two-hour evening, the format suits people who want to sit down with food and stay a while.

Fraser Street after dark

The adults' calendar runs out of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 499 at 15 Fraser Street in Angus, and it has two dates.

On Friday, October 23, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., the branch hosts COMEDY "LIVE," a stand-up night with Den Of Hilarities. The event page doesn't list a ticket price. One week later, on Friday, October 30, the branch holds its Hallowe'en Party from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $7 for members and $10 for non-members. The branch posted both events on October 5. The party listing is here.

The Legion party starts about seven hours after Teeny Halloweeny ends on the same Friday. On the 30th, the youngest children have the morning and the adults have the night, with no events in between.

The final week, hour by hour

From October 23 on, all three hosts are active, and the schedule looks like this:

Across nine days, the only time slot where two events compete is Halloween morning in Angus against Halloween afternoon in Egbert. The rest of the week is staggered by age and time of day, even though no single organizer planned it that way. Drysdale's ends the season on October 31, with its last night wagon leaving at 9:15 p.m.

The details that make a fall weekend in Essa work, like a 3:45 wagon cutoff, a cash-only food counter or a Friday morning in the Rec Centre gym, are the same kind of local knowledge The JRB Group brings to every conversation about life in the township. If your family is thinking about its next move in Angus, Egbert or anywhere along County Road 10, request a consultation and let's talk about the lifestyle you want.
